In books, dystopian YA continued to be a strong subgenre in 2014, with several popular titles like Four by Veronica Roth (a short story collection in the Divergent series), Ignite Me by Tahareh Mafi (Book 3 in the Shatter Me series), Red Rising by Pierce Brown (Book 1 in the Red Rising trilogy), and The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey (The Fifth Wave, Book 2). The spinoff series, The Originals, went into its second season, and Pretty Little Liars went into its fifth season. On television, The Vampire Diaries went into its sixth season and won the Teen Choice Award for best science fiction or fantasy series for the fifth year in a row.
